Travelplans: Yuanyang Rice Terrace or Longji Rice Terrace?

Yuanyang Rice Terrace ( Yuanyang County, Yunnan )

Best time: November – April

The Yuanyang Rice Terraces cover a large area with various shapes and different altitudes. There are many terraces that reach up to 3000 steps and they can be located up to 2002 meters above sea level. In winter, you will see the sky reflected in the wet terraces and this can turn all the terraces into a magnificent blue.

Duoyishu Terraced Field
This site is famous for its sunrise panorama. No worries if you are a little late for sunrise, the morning view is still as beautiful as a picture. You will never forget this mesmerizing outlook!

Bada Terraced Field
This scenic spot is the perfect place for viewing the sea clouds and the sunset. If you are into photography, don’t forget your camera!

Laohuzui Terraced Field
This area includes nearly 12,000 acres of terraced fields. It is the most precipitous, magnificent, most spectacular, and largest rice terrace in Yuanyang. The slope of the rice terrace is relatively steep, and it is also loved by photographers during sunset.

Ethnicity
Here you can visit the ethnic minority of the Hani people. The architecture in the valley of the Hani people looks like mushrooms, cute and romantic. You can explore the ancient customs of the Hani people, even though they are quite protective of them.

Longji Rice Terrace (Longsheng County, Guilin City)

Best time: May – June and September – October

The Rice Terraces in Longji village show a picture of great momentum and imposing beauty. A history of more than 700 years is built into the hillsides. In autumn all the terraced fields turn into a golden yellow, making it the most beautiful season to visit!

Jinkeng Rice Terraces
This area is filled with the most primitive, spacious, and beautiful rice terraces. You can enjoy both, a nice sunrise and an incredible sunset at one of the many wonderful viewpoints around the terraces. Besides, a cable car will save you precious time.

Pingan Rice Terraces
Most of the tourists will visit this specific area. The tourist spots are quite developed compared to others regions. It includes the most famous viewpoint, named “The Seven Stars with Moon”.

Longji Ancient Zhuang Rice Terraces
This area is less crowded compared to the Jinkeng and Pingan Rice Terraces. It is quite big but also delicate and more authentic.

Ethnicity
This region is the home of the Zhuang and the Yao, you can explore their culture while you are hiking. Also, don’t forget to cook together with them their handmade specialties.
