Erhai Lake, Dali
The Erhai is a crystal-clear, ear-shaped lake adjacent to Dali Ancient Town. It is the second largest highland lake in China. You can do either one- or two-day cycling around the beautiful lake with the backdrop of the Cang Mountains.
1-day cycling is roughly 130 Km, and quite flat. There are several possible routes ranging from 120 Km to 145 Km. You can either go counter clockwise, or first south to XiaGuan and then around the bottom of the lake.
2 – day cycling is for those of you that want to go all around the lake, but in a more relaxing way. You can do 80km on the first day and 50km on the second day.
Napa Lake, Shangri-La
It is 3,270m above the sea level and covers 660 square kilometers. It is about 8km northwest of Shangri-La town in Yunnan Province.
The whole cycle journey is about 40 kilometers long and it takes about three to four hours to finish the ride. You can see the scenery of grasslands, lakes and snowy mountains along your way.
Dian Lake, Kunming
Dian Lake’s nickname is the “Sparkling Pearl Embedded in a Highland”. The lake is wide and spectacular. Every winter, a large flock of red-billed gulls migrate here from Siberia, making it a good place to watch and feed birds.
The ride around Dianchi Lake is about 120km long. Along the way, you will overlook the West Mountain and the Dianchi Lake, pass by hundreds of prestige farmlands nearby, making the scenery beyond pleasing.
Xishuangbanna, Yunnan
If you are a trained cyclist you should consider the long-distance ride (4-6 days) in Xishuangbanna, which is full of southern scenery, unexpected ethnic customs and beautiful trails along the rainforest.
