The pearl-shaped country surrounded by the Indian Ocean celebrated its 71 years of independence the other day. Therefore, as a tropical islander, I want to highlight on the world-renown golden beaches, green-carpeted mountains, impressive wildlife and cultural heritages comes with a majestic past, my country proudly holding as a small island , besides the warm smiles , hospitality and spicy food and array of sweetmeats found nowhere in the world, it offers to zillions of travelers around the world.
The sacred city of Anuradhapura, the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, the golden temple of Dambulla, the historical city of Sigiriya, mostly referred as the 8th wonder, as well as the cultural city of Kandy, the old town of Galle and finally, the ecological Sinharaja forest are some of the famous archaeological world heritage sites recognized by UNESCO in the country. From enormous temple remains and ruined cities to the mind-blowing stairways in ancient buildings ruled by the old kings in past, the country’s cultural depth can be easily explored by its popular area called “The Cultural Triangle”.
