Time to Plan Your Spring Trip to Asia

Although winter is still with us, now is the time to start planning your spring trip to receive a more competitive price. Asia regards this delicate season of renewal as a source of joy and a time to celebrate. In this article, we highlight some of the most compelling Asian destinations for you to consider in the spring.

Japan

When speaking about the spring in Japan, the image of soft pink blossoms covering the countryside is an inevitable one. From mid-March, cherry trees erupt into a profusion of pink hues. The parks of Tokyo and Kyoto along with the surrounding countryside are at their most vibrant during this season. Families gather under blooming trees to enjoy picnics and celebrate Hanami.

Tokyo’s cherry blossoms can be seen across parks such as Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden and Ueno Park. In addition, there are inspiring urban views to be found along the Meguro River in Nakameguro and in Chidori-ga-fuchi Moat near the Imperial Palace. In the Kansai region, Kyoto and Nara offer some awe-inspiring sights. Ancient temples grace the hillsides, offering a serene backdrop framed by the delicate shades of white and pink cherry trees. No matter where you are in Japan during the cherry blossom season, you are sure to be awestruck by the spectacular sights and immense natural beauty on offer.

South Korea

South Korea is also renowned for its cherry blossom in spring. The season arrives a little later than in Japan, around the end of March. It will be celebrated across the country with spring festivals, cultural events, and family picnics under blossom-laden trees. This makes it an excellent time to visit, it is advisable to allow a little extra time to fully experience the blossoms and festivities, particularly in Seoul. The city and the beautiful Bukhansan National Park are at their most vibrant.

The Jinhae Cherry Blossom Festival, one of Korea’s largest and most renowned celebrations, takes place annually in the city of Jinhae. This festival draws millions of visitors each year, who come to admire the cherry blossoms along the Yeojwacheon Stream and participate in cultural performances, parades, and fireworks displays. It is recommended to add Jeju Island to your itinerary. The island is famous for its dramatic volcanic terrain, pristine beaches, lush forests and picturesque waterfalls. It offers a unique opportunity to experience a different side of South Korea.

Vietnam

Spring is the ideal season to visit Halong Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, when the skies are clear and the waters are calm. The bay’s natural beauty can be best appreciated by cruising among the limestone karsts, kayaking in the emerald waters, and exploring the hidden caves. The comfortable temperatures make outdoor activities on the bay especially enjoyable. In the vicinity of Halong Bay, the capital of Vietnam, Hanoi, offers a variety of attractions. These include a stroll around Hoan Kiem Lake surrounded by blooming flowers, exploring the bustling Old Quarter, and enjoying the best cuisine in pleasant weather.

The former imperial capital of Hue also boasts a wealth of cultural attractions. The historic Citadel and royal tombs are surrounded by blooming flowers. The Perfume River, with its banks lined with spring blossoms, offers a tranquil setting for a boat ride. The mild weather is perfect for cycling through the countryside and visiting local villages. Another option would be to take a walk through the streets of Hoi An, which are adorned with colourful lanterns and blooming flowers. For a tropical spring getaway, Phu Quoc Island is a prefect choice. Enjoy pristine beaches, snorkel in clear waters, and explore the lush national park.

Bhutan

A holiday in the Kingdom of Bhutan provides an opportunity to escape everyday life and immerse yourself in a land of myths and legends. Located in the Himalayas, Bhutan’s pristine valleys, stunning snow-peaked mountains, and sublime rivers are just as inviting as its unique and inspiring way of life. The pursuit of happiness and the preservation of traditional culture and customs have endured and are a testament to the resilience of the nation.

The two most desirable seasons are spring and autumn, with spring being the preferred option due to its abundance of festivals.  The Paro Tsechu is a deeply significant religious festival held annually in Paro, Bhutan. It is celebrated on the tenth day of the second month in the Bhutanese lunar calendar, which typically falls in March or April in the Gregorian calendar.

Cambodia

Cambodia is best known for its impressive temple complex of Angkor, yet further exploration reveals secluded beaches in the south of the country. Travel northeast and you will encounter remote villages nestled in the hillsides. In the capital, you will encounter the sobering reality of the former Khmer regime. Cambodia’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty offer a wealth of opportunities for exploration and discovery.

Over time, the jungle has gradually reclaimed many of the temples, and they retain their mystery. The legacy of French colonists can be seen in the European-style villas and Baroque-influenced gardens that grace the boulevards of Phnom Penh. To the northeast, the hills and forests offer refuge to wild elephants and majestic waterfalls, as well as a resilient minority community. To the south, you can experience the relaxed atmosphere of sleepy coastal towns and savour the local delicacy, crab.
