Spring is a magical time of year to be out exploring walking trails near Shanghai. Unfurling flowers lace the forest floors, coastlines teem with returning seabirds and mammals from their winter slumber. From stunning wildflower woodlands to springtime hills, here is our guide to some of the best spring walks.

 

Sheshan National Forest Park

Sheshan National Forest Park is located west of Sheshan’s center. Easy to reach by either taking Line 9 to Dongjing Station or hopping on the Songjiang Bus No. 33.  The perfect weekend getaway for a sunny spring day. On the first day, you can take a walk in the bamboo forest of Sheshan National Forest Park, and then visit the Yuehu Sculpture Park to appreciate the sculptures created by many masters. Stay at InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland at night, a magical hotel built in the sinkhole. On the second day, you can explore the lush green secret garden – Chenshan Botanical Garden – to admire the beautiful flora. Finally, visit the Guangfulin Archaeological Ruins. Zhangjiajie

The sandstone pillars in Zhangjiajie are well-known for their bewitching appearance. It is a thrill to walk the narrow glass path on Taimen Mountain, which is 1,400 meters above ground. When spring arrives, you will find yourself surrounded by the plum blossoms along the Ten-mile Gallery. Dajishan National Forest Park

Dajishan National Forest Park is located in Tonglu County, Hangzhou City. Apart from the greeny vegetation in the mountains and forests, there are also many waterfalls and streams hidden in the park. The mountain’s altitude is around 600 meters, which is suitable for hiking. There are numerous viewpoints from which to survey this colorful landscape, a playground, and a bbq corner for you to enjoy family fun. A special wooden teahouse was built beside the Jinniu River and next to the tea garden. With glassy streams and rambling grasslands, this theatrical landscape will be one of the places where you fully enjoy the spring vibe.

 

 

Yellow Mountain

Located in southern Anhui Province, the Yellow Mountains feature 72 peaks. Spring is not only the season for alpine azaleas to bloom but also a higher probability of viewing the sea of ​​clouds. Take a stroll through the Xihai Grand Canyon or take a short train ride. After reaching Guangmingding, it is the best viewing point to enjoy the sunrise and sunset. Besides the mountains, there are many different ancient villages to view nearby and at their most beautiful time of the year. Huangling is the one you shouldn’t miss. The villages was founded during the Tang Dynasty (618-907), with a history that dates back over a thousand years. In the spring, the meadows of this community, which is home to several buildings in the Hui architectural style, are adorned with golden rapeseed blossoms.

 

 

Tianmu Mountain

Tianmu Lake is 8 kilometers away from downtown Liyang in Changzhou of Jiangsu Province.  It is now part of UNESCO’s World Network of Biosphere Reserves. Famous for awe-inspiring sights such as rare forests of large Japanese cedars and the only wild ginkgo tree. If you are lucky enough you can have the chance to see the rare and endangered birds. This is the best place to restart your body with the hot spring. Yushui Hot Springs Resort is hidden in a tranquil and beautiful bamboo forest. The water temperature is between 38ºC to 42ºC (100-108ºF) with rare calcium bicarbonate style hot springs, which is nice for your body. The vibrant lush trees blanket the slopes of the mountain. You will not get bored during the hike since there are many temples, mausoleums, and observatories hidden in the forest.
